Complementary Therapies

We are pleased to inform our clients, and prospective clients, that Acupuncture and Osteopathy are now fully available at the practice.

We realise that there has been significant change in thoughts towards complementary therapies in human medicine in the last decade. We feel our clients require similar services for their animals. Our experts come to the practice from all over England to allow our clients the opportunity to explore these new treatments.

Jan Lloyd-Jones MBAcC can offer acupuncture using laser. Osteopathy is in the hands of Tony Nevin DO, for manipulation of musculoskeletal problems. Acupuncture comes into its own with pain in the muscles and bones of the neck, legs and spine.

Arthritis, back pain, lameness and in-coordination can all benefit. Osteopathy and acupuncture are both very useful in animals recovering from surgery, especially to limbs. They can be used for long standing arthritis,

joint and muscle pain or the odd "twinge" – just as we would use them for bad backs and sciatica and the like in us humans.

If you are interested in these therapies please talk to your veterinary surgeon at the practice and they will be happy to refer you on. Most cases can be seen in a matter of days at The Clockhouse Veterinary Hospital. Complementary therapies, following referral by a veterinary surgeon, can be covered by most pet insurance (subject to terms and conditions of your policy).

Janet Lloyd-Jones (Registered Acupuncturist)

MBAcC MBMLA

Janet qualified in 1989 from the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Leamington Spa, and subsequently studied TCM Acupuncture at The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. She has also completed courses in Low Level Laser Therapy through Acu-Medic, Omega Lasers, Thor Lasers and the NHS, in conjunction with the MBMLA.

She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the British Medical Laser Association and an associate member of the European Laser Association.

In 1994 she turned her attention to the equine world and joined the Willesley Equine Clinic with whom she continues to work using both Laser Acupuncture and Low Level Laser Therapy.

In 1996 a vacancy arose at the Clockhouse veterinary practice for an in-house Acupuncturist, using laser rather than needles, since when she has provided a regular service for small/domestic animals

Following pioneering work she undertook at Clockhouse,Janet is currently undertaking a research programme into the effectiveness of a regime for the treatment of paralysis, that she developed, using Laser Acupuncture.

Acupuncture, however, is not the only therapy Janet brings with her. Using her experience with Low Level Laser Therapy she is able to help accelerate wound healing. Whether it is an open wound, infection, tendon strain, scar tissue, muscle spasm, or fracture, the unique properties of the Laser can help speed recovery, in conjunction with conventional veterinary

medicine. LLLT has also proved invaluable where drug intolerance is a problem, or indeed in the competitive field, where drug use is restricted.
